Sheer waste of money

Do we even know  Chattrapati Shivaji's message to Posterity ? All we know about him is what we studied in our history books, that he was a Maratha king who fought valiantly against the wily Mughal emperor Aurangazeb. We have many leaders like him in the course of our Country's history and if we start making statues of 100 crores to each one of them, then we would end up with begging bowls. We are not against beautifying our cities or building monuments but 100 crore for one statue? For once I agree with Raj Thackeray for suggesting that this 100 crore should be diverted to recover tax losses. After all it is tax payers money.
We get easily offended by books criticizing our culture, gods, religion, religion etc but turn a blind eye to this sheer wastage of our money. Should we not protest against  such blatant disregard of our hard earned money? Yes Raj and his party might get political mileage out of his anti toll drive and some might even question his methods and timing but if in the long run we are benefited then why not? Now the chief minister agrees that there were indeed irregularities in the toll collection.Had this protest not happened , we like fools would have gone on paying the toll tax.
Why should we not demand for  accountability of our tax payment? We pay for better infrastructure and the same money can be put for better uses like improvement of  hospitals and schools which are in pathetic conditions. We can recruit more men and women in the police for more safety and keep a tighter vigil on our borders. But the government thinks we need more statues and monuments. Have we really elected such insane people ?People who have no idea about the priorities that need to fulfilled and whose only aim seem to be to save their chairs.
